Can anyone help me with a problem with my disco 2? 2001 Disco series 2 diff lock light flashed on yesterday, now stays on all the time. Checked the owners manual, it states that the diff lock can be activeted for maintenance. However, it must be deactivated or it will effect the ABS and the traction control. This it has done and both warning lights are now illuminated with the diff lock light. Can the diff lock be inadvertantly activated and if so, how do you deactivate it? Is this something i cando myself or will it need the garage?

On the D2 if the brake light fuse blows the Difflock light illuminates.
So check your brake lights are working, this wouldnt normaly illuminate the abs,tc lights though!

OP tried the reversing, both left and right lock, still the same. Checked the brake lights all ok there. It does say in the owners handbook that the diff lock can be activated manually for maintenance and to ensure it is disengaged.. It also says "if it is engaged it will override the traction control and ABS" hence these light are illuminating aswell. Could it just be the sensor?

Stating the bleedin' obvious, but it's been known before ... do you have a difflock setting (move to the left) on the Hi-Lo gear stick?

Thanks for that Paul D, but the 2001 disco TD5 don't have one, all singing all dancing traction control, wish i had my 300tdi back

As Paul says It is worth checking for a Difflock, many owners retro fitted them . Its such a common offroading mod that the kits to do the conversion are now as rare as hens teeth. You would not know its fitted unless they fitted a new knob as well.

No diff lock fitted. went to a main dealer today, they said it is most probably the sensor. Lifted a wheel off the ground and was able to rotate it by hand , so no diflock engaged. Had the sensor out and no difference to the lights when i operated the sensor, so either a duff sensor or something more sinister. Still don't have ABS or TC though. Thanks everyone for your efforts though.
