At my local garage today (MOT) they advised that I can purchase a Defender 90 or 110 front pipe to replace the CAT section on my 2000 Reg Disco 2. That will be £20-30 rather than £60-£100 for the Disco Decat pipe with flexi section.

Do I need a TD5 Defender pipe or will a 300Tdi Defender pipe also fit?

If someone could clarify so I order the right bit that would be very helpful.

I see a number of them on Ebay. Any tips on best place to buy the pipe and gaskets?

Thanks :blabla:

I fitted a disco td5 pre cat down pipoe to mine, £48.00 from your local exhaust supplier. I have seen people fit defender down pipes without the flexi section in them and have cracked their manifold at the point where the down pipe section bolts to due to excessive vibration. A few extra pounds makes a lot of sense if you need to replace exhaust manifolds.

Do all Disco2 TD5 have cats?

Cos I read somewhere that none is fitted....

This is interesting. I have not looked underneath my newly aquired TD5 yet (frightened to I think) so I can't say whether it has a Cat, but is there any year / model guide available which defines CAT usage, i.e. early models or late models. manual or autos etc., also I have a trackday car which is fitted with twin turbos and when that was de-catted, it subsequently blew the turbo seals due to the change in the back pressure, and thus needed new turbos £££'s. Does a de-cat on a Disco have the same outcome, i.e. shortly afterwards the turbo starts emitting deadly blueywhiteish smoke ??

I would make sure you fit a Disco one so it has the flexi section in it, its there for a reason.

And as far as removing it, no you dont need one and yes it makes it much better!!. Incidently, CATS were fitted to TD5's from around the late "51" plates on.....

I might be wrong but around 2002 I think they started fitting CAT's not that you need one.

Hi there,
When invented, the TD5 engine (or "Project Storm") was clean enough to comply with the Euro2 norms without any additional Cat. Latter on, in 2002 they introduced the Cat in order to cover the Euro3.
