was towing a heavy weight the other day and auto box temp warning came on went off after letting it cool down now every time I drive it after 5 min the light will come on drained the sump today and replaced oil hasn't made a difference drove home 4 miles up hill when got home felt gearbox sump and was like warm could this just be a dodgy temperature sensor or something more serious

Hi, more than likely a faulty sender, I had the same problem back in July although mine was on constantly in the end. Has the filter been changed in the g/box sump at the correct intervals ? When I got the old one out & put a meter on it, it was closed circuit (when cold) which is why the light was on all the time but after heating it up on the bench with the meter still connected & letting it cool down it came back to life (open circuit light off) so I heated again & once it was hot it then went closed circuit again (light on). I didn't put a temp. probe on it to see when it was switching on & off but I might have saved myself £50 if I had put it back in !

Have no remorse cos those switches are reacting differently to slow temperature change like in the transmission oil than to fast heating on a bench, i tested one too some time ago, it worked well with a heat gun but wrong in situ

I'm glad I got a new one in advance then as I would have probably re-fitted the old one.
