Hello,
I found this amp on e bay and wondered if its the same as you have underneath your seat please?...it seems to have lots of inputs/outputs.
I also found Harman Kardon ones but i think they are for 11 speakers. Here is the link. quite a big one, then i would need a cable from this to radio and one from harness by radio to the amp...I think.....thank you

Yes, that does look very similar. I can't guarantee it's identical as it's quite difficult to see. I may be able to have another look tomorrow morning.

As you say, you would need to source the loom but I'm not confident on offering advice on that.

This is turning into a major project!

Hello PP,
thank you for the kind offer, after i posted this I rang a company selling amps to see if they had a cheap one for me as online.I got the spec of my speaker s from the RAVE document. He said i my speakers were quite "weedy" and they did a very low power unit which would suit , but suggested i would be better served to source a correct head unit either original or a aftermarket one.Citing total cost as a reason with cabling. So am going to try to get the right one.Nothing on e bay at the moment,I am trying to look up C42 for the part number, trouble is I use a Mac computer and cannot do it.I am hoping to get a friend to do it for me. I have the workshop manual in pdf, cannot recall how.

I hoped the 4x4 day on 5th April would be good for me, but i saw it was cancelled due to Corvid 19,so thats a loss for me.I did post this in the forum under "anything else" could not do it in announcements. I see your base din Fareham, so thought I would mention it in case you were going.
thank you again.

Thank you Stanleysteamer it does but I think the amp bit with wiring would be to much for me,I have problems bending and could probably not do it.I have put an advert in the wanted section of the parts part of the web site for a UK version of R990....amp version.
I called this electrics bit company for a chat and after that i think i will try and get a Uk version with built in amp,I keep seeing all this great big units in Discoverys from people who have upgraded, so am hoping someone will have one for me......thanks for all your great help...hope the plumbing wa successful!

This is getting quite complex! I can't find the LR part number for the C42 or find any for sale. I agree the best solution would be to get a head unit which is compatible with your wiring, but this must also suit your finances.

I don't think LR part numbers are in RAVE (well, I've not been able to find them). There are a number of ways to get Windows software to run on the Mac (eg WINE, I use WINE under Linux to run all my Windows stuff) to get your own version of RAVE running.

You can get LR part numbers from https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/ but the only radios listed were for the American market. Out of the Japanese frying pan into the American fire!!

No wasn't going to the 4x4 day. Didn't actually know about it.

I'll give it all some more thought and get back if anything comes to mind.

No leaks and actually quite neat. Wifey even remarked on it!
You are absolutely right that so many peeps do seem to have replaced original stereos with aftermarket ones.So there ought to be ones out there.
I think you have done absolutely the right thing by advertising for one on the forum.
I unfortunately don't have one as I have 2 Disco 1s and they obviously don't or didn't have the right one for you and my Disco 2 came with an aftermarket already!
Best of luck with your search!

Don't be too envious, 2 D1s means twice the body welding, but I feel they have more character and they are certainly much easier to work on and tune in a more old skool way. But if I was to put all three of them together, even with the lpg system on the V8, i doubt they'd be worth £5k! And only the D2 is on the road, the others are sorned for various reasons none of which will be terribly easy to get over. I am too busy with houeshold DIY plus living in France half the year, to be able to get to where I want to be with them. I am scared of getting too old to be able to get them all three on the road before infirmity bites me in the bum. I also thought of a jap import for the D1 but at the time we couldn't find one. In stead we found an Anniversary and it was only about 6 years old an cost so much we actually had to get a loan to buy it. But it did do exactly what we wanted it to do, i.e. tow a huge trailer back and forth to our new build in France 4 times a year, as well as take us to the Dales every Christmas. I only stopped driving it cos of illness and the need to get an auto. Now I can drive again, I am dying to get it back on the road. But it now needs sills and B, C posts doing. The LPG V8 I bought cos I looked for one for a long time. It is manual too and the LPG was professionally fitted so huge range but no loss of boot space BUT the idiot never registerd it so to insure it properly i have to take the tanks off and clean them up, find the numbers stamped on them but hidden, and sort the rest of the underbody fittings, before the local guy will even look at checking and registering it. But boy does it go! It is also a bit tatty inside and will need work.
Too much work and have I got enough life time? I still have an unfinished kit car in the garage as well, although fortunately that is properly registered so I won't have to put it through IVA. Race before my arthritis, which is mild at the moment, gets the better of me!
Looking forward to good news for you.

That's really good news you may have a suitable radio! It has been an epic. I'm amazed that there is such a difference between the UK and Japanese spec vehicles on something I thought was irrelevant (apart from frequency range etc on the radio).

Good luck with RAVE. I have no Mac experience but know there are various packages for it that allow you to run Windows applications, WINE just being one of them. I had no trouble installing RAVE with Linux WINE (printing doesn't work .... yet).

As Stanley said, we hope for good news soon.

Thank you both, not heard back from the site user yet am hoping to hear soon how I send the money.I will need a code for it which i can get. Most things look the same to me on Jap import, mine is just like my TD5 GL.Same colour inside. same 4 speakers etc
Although today I had a key man call to fit me a spare key and he says sits a different frequency on Jap imports. Not heard that before.

You do have a lot of work on the back burner with those Stanleysteamer but am sure its enjoyable,I do like welding but am not good at it.
I will update you if i get a result.

Hope you get this finally sorted out, it has been a bit of a journey!
As for
he says sits a different frequency on Jap imports. Not heard that before.

I mentioned this in post #20 and PP mentioned it in his last post! If this wasn't a problem you could just have rolled with the original radio!
Anyway, all the very best and let us know what you did to sort it in the end!
(I'm not much cop on the welding front either except bizarrely for stick welding, but if you weld it together stongly enough you can then spend many happy hours taking the excess off with a grinder!)

We'll thank you both you help,I have not heard any more from the member who offered me a radios have amended my advert to say still looking for one.
Currently just listening to the engine !

On welding i can stick metal together ,thats about it.I was good about 30 years ago, but have lost it now.

I will update with more news.

Hello all,
still listening to my engine, been unable to get a radio which surprised me a bit, the member on here who offered one did not get in contact,so back to square one.
I did find a posting that made me think I needed a Phillips R990 unit and not a Alpine.I have now discovered no so,
So still looking

Thank you I have tried that number i think its a Alpine with the Harman Kardon output for loads of speakers.I have e mailed lots of people selling them on e bay and most are the amp type. Some breakers do not know and say check its the same as what you have...bit hard as do not have one to check it with.

I think what I need is an owner with one like mine and ask can you slip out the radio for me please. I know its not XGDOOO110LNF that needs a amp.

I did try a Rover car one from same era but they need a separate display to work....never thought it would be so hard.
