Hello again all.
I am trying to sort out the radio in my Disco, only had it week..its great.Apart from this radio thing.I discoverd Jap frequency range for FM is limited to 90MHz and we in UK go to 105.
Most of what i would listed to is over 90. pus no traffic reports which can be handy.
So plan to get a UK used radio.

I have been told about a DSP amp and to disconnect it from the speakers and then connect speakers to radio.Thing is cannot find this DSP amp.I was told passenger side foot well area under the dash but cannot see it.

My Disco is 2001 and I was told they did stop fitting them some when...does anyone know when or what year please.?....any tips greatly received.
thank you.

You will find that Japanese imports have a slightly lower specification than the UK models specification, so your vehicle may not be fitted with the high end audio system that has a separate amplifier.
Anyway a “decent” UK spec head unit that will interface with the steering wheel audio control will work just as well, and will also give something like 45watts per channel plus depending on the unit u choose it will have a pre-amplifier bass output to link with the sub amp thats in the tailgate, if there’s one fitted that is.@

Thank you for your help. The problem is I was told the wiring is different for Jap models in that the amp has to be removed and the wiring from it taken to the radio head or it will not work or will blow the head unit as it will not have any output device. This amp is suppose to be passenger side down low in the foot well area ,but cannot see it.The existing system is a Alpine R990 model. I was worried about just plugging ina radio and causing problems.....I did plan to do this just get a UK spec R990 unit...will it work?
cheers

It has CD function on the head unit, but no CD fitted in the car, just cassette s on the head unit......Will i cause any harm to the areas of the electrics by doing this. please?

I have been trawling the web and found its part number
AMR5117 I have seen it on a Google search and it seems to be in Disco 1 and P38s more but I will resume my search and see if i can find it, if I have one ,I am hoping it was not fited to a DISCO 2 maybe i am looking in he wrong place.

Ok AMR5117 is Amplifier audio power... in LR speak, so the amplifier and only for the Japanese market. The location stated in my parts catalogue is ‘footwell’ so did u remove the footwell kick panels? I assume it will be the passenger side. If u had a multi CD player that would have been from Pioneer
The D1 in the UK used Philips or Clarion kit and without amps, other than the one at the back for the sub.
This link may or not be of use to u.

Thank you for the info, I see you mention Disco 1 ,I have a Disco 2 so may explain why I cannot find it. Spent hours under the dash.....I only really need radio, not fussed about anything else.I do find traffic reports handy which cannot get at the moment. I think I have just front speakers....will need to look some more in daylight.....thanks again. Th spec is a bit odd compared to my old GL TD5.I useD to have adjustable headlights, driving lamps and a tow bar none with this one. I think its called a XS spec.....will let you know what i find in side panels.

thank you all again

Thank you all.I have surrendered with it all.........I have bought a second-hand unit same model but UK spec from a breakers and had a look at the wiring on the existing which is a great jumble of wires and weird colours. I was surprised it had so many.I have 4 speakers in the doors thats all.

Then i spoke to a local company who said they would supply the leads and adjust the wiring to suit for £60, so i thought go for it.

Due to age and health condition I find it a bit hard bending to get under dashboards, the old on cam out easily which i will bin.

Thank you all yet again for all your help and guidance, next job scratch removal from rear door glass, last owner never changed the wiper blade so got some scratches to try to remove!

If yours is the same as my 2002 TD5, you'll need an adapter between the car's loom and a modern radio.
I got mine from DynamicSounds.co.uk
It was either https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/ct2...y-freelander-wiring-harness-adaptor-lead.html
Or this one https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/ct2...covery-freelander-wiring-harness-adaptor.html
You'll end up with the two standard block connectors to 'plug and play' your new unit.
Mine is an ex commercial and didn't have the amplifier which sits underneath the front passenger seat but did have the cd player under the driver's seat

Thank you.

I do not have a amplifier under the passenger seat, but a small black box under the drivers, but do not know what it is.I about 150 melon x75mm wides 25mm high cannot see any CD system anywhere.

You may not have a cd changer but i expect you'll have the unique block connections between the car and the original Land Rover radio. My cousin fits a lot of radios to his customer's cars and he'd never seen anything like the loom on mine. He's done a few Discoveries but all were fitted with standard plugs so he assumed mine was the first with original wiring he'd seen.

Thank you ......I was a bit phased when i pulled out the radio all those plugs and wires, is yours a Jap import?

Do you know what the black thing is under the drivers seat?

I am beginning to see Jap imports are a bit different,I have an immobiliser as i set off an alarm when i first got the car as could not get the key out of the ignition and must have pressed the fob buttons. The horn was blasting away.....but i do not have the sensors my old TD5 had up in the headlining.

Service record i have is in Japanese...loads of it, plus booklets I have bought a UK radio book, I got a Japanese man to look at it and translate some for me.One thing he said the spark plugs have never been changed,I read the service interval is a massive 72k,but mines done 86K.The dealer i bought it from was supposed have done a full service but he did not do it.I am told in Japan you are not allowed to have a car alarm.
Thank you
