Hi All.
Needing a little help from Cape Town.
Recently my 97 Disco1 300tdi manual has started giving me intermittent starting trouble, now becoming very regular and a problem.
Basically I have all power throughout the vehicle. Dash and coil lights all on etc. Turning the key lights go off and I can hear the relay going on the left side but no crank.
Perhaps 2 hours later or the next day she'll start as usual. A few trips and no joy again.
It has alarm/imm/central locking.
Could it be starter brushes? Immobilizer problem or ignition switch?
Is there anyway to permanently bypass or remove the immobilizer?
Many thanks in advance, had to walk home from the shops now.

Check the viability of the small white 'exciter' wire on the starter, it get hot, cold and wet and sometimes needs re-making on the join, or a pinch with pliers to make the fit tighter ...

That’s one symptom of an iffy immobiliser (spider) as it’s called, which isolates a 12v supply to the starter relay so the engine doesn’t crank.
If there’s is a fault a single piece of wire with clips on the end as a temporary measure will get the engine cranking, remember the immobiliser also isolates the fuel system.

If u have multiple non functioning circuits then check battery supply and earth and vehicle earth connections.

Welcome When I had my disco it had same problem, was simply dirty battery terminals. Worth a try to clean them up and retighten

Thanks Guys.
I went back to car about 2 hrs later and she started. Now she's home but I'm reluctant to drive her till she's sorted out.Luckily I've got a g reg rr classic with a 300 tdi in that never seems to skip a beat on the starting front and for some reasons a hell of alot more economical fuel wise.
I'll clean the terminals first off and revert.
I did see previous threads relating to this problem
with slightly different symptoms . Unfortunately there are very few LR mechanics locally despite a large population of LRs .
Appreciate all advice chaps cheers for that.

Make notes on what you've checked, as it's easy to forget ...
