Orite there,
Had discovery 1 for few months now, not driven it tht much as work away.
It has always juddered or rattled if you will, after you change gear but only until you get some revs up then it stops. Can't think how to describe it any better.its not smooth I dont have power straight after change unless I hammer the throttle.its when u change gear and as soon as clutch is released.

I thought this would be normal on a 1997 LR diesel . After driving brand new company vehicle I imagine the LR was like tht once upon a time and would like to try and at least make it a bit easier to drive.

The gears go in easy and the clutch seems okay. Because I'm not driving it I have time to take it pieces etc.

Hope i explained enough there sorry for the lack of mechanic terminology im an building engineer! :blabla:Any help appreciated cheers

mine did that untill I filled both gearboxes with correct oil,
done the diffs, and manged all the grease nipples on both propshafts.

dont do it now.
maybe was the cause of judder, maybe not, but I prefur it not.
all oils/grease nipples needed doing anyway, so if your under it, might as well do it all I say.

someone wrote:-
if its not leaking,
theres no oil in it to leak.
very wise words my friend.

thanks, i shall do that next. I have not got round to replacing oil yet but will definitely make that the priority now.

Would struggle with the grease nipples though as dont know what/where they are.

Its got oil, that's on the drive but maybe low or something.

Cheers Jay

in the u/j`s and on the sliding parts on the props.
1 nipple on mine was a bastid to do till I ground the sides of a small grease gun end bit as it goes over the nipple.
you will have to jack one wheel to turn the prop round to reach the nipples better..

Oh, oil on the floor can come from either box or diff.

must check `em at least mate.

Thanks easy, I mucked around with it today greasing nipples and topping up oil. Although I lost more oil than I put because was already full!

Test drove it and the judders went, I couldn't believe it. You wouldn't think a poxy little grease gun would fix that. Thought was more serious. Hope this can help others too.
