Hi
Relative new coming to this forum, read through a few threads and am looking for some inspiration.

My 3.9 Efi Disco is a non runner. Turns over and feels like it is attempting to fire, but simply won't spring in to life. Have a battery booster on it now as battery is almost dead.

Have cleaned Dizzy Capp and Rotor contacts, made sure all leads are in place as well. Yesterday when it did run, it felt a little flat and did stall whilst in D or R. Would re start thou but wouldn't idle well.

Old buddy of mine reckons it could be the fuel injection coolant sensor in the inlet manifold, but not sure how to test this or even by pass it (If possible).

Any suggestions gratefully received before I throw a fortune at it

Cheers
Dave

probably igntion timing if it feels flat.

coolant and fuel temp sensors are only to tell the ecu how much fuel to pour in. they run on the rich side anyway, so it's very unlikely to not be getting enough fuel to run properly.

check the timing forst, that would make it flat/lumpy.

Check for spark strenth and silly question but have u got fuel in the tank? Don't trust the gauge

yeah good gauge you had read half and was dry as a bone! lol

try new cap leads and rotor gen as you sound like a weak spark issue as a coolant temp sensor needs the base idle reseting too

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I fitted a Coolant temp sensor anyway as it was only £12 and relativley easy to do. Started fine after fitting and has been a runner since last Monday, but has returned to its previous non start self today.

It did start this morning, idled for about a minute and half whilst I cleared some frost of it, popped it into reverse and moved about 6 feet and it stopped. I have replaced the battery as a matter of course as this was old and it felt laboured turning over, think all the problems I have been having plus the colder weather have about killed it.

I removed the plugs and they were wet, so we are getting fuel! Cleaned them up and put them back in - still not firing but is turning over and attempting to fire. Maybe flooded with fuel now thou, which I find odd for a EFi.

Surely timing cannot be an issue as isn't it electronic with and ECU.

I'm thinking new plugs anyway, but cap and rotor don't look that old and the leads look in reasonably good condition.

Any other thoughts?

yeah it is, there is an allen screw on the afm.

do search for afm trim and you will see. ypu just need an allen key and a mulitimeter

It sounds daft but mine went though a stage of this and it turned out to be the plug on the fuel pump. It wasn't quite pushed on all the way.
You can check by listening to see if it kicks in when the ignition is switched on, or the valve on the fuel rail to see if there's any in there.
I know it sounds daft but worth a try hey!

i would go for a poor spark not fuel as it has run fine upto know displess a afm fault check the amp and dissy are sending correct voltages and the coil fires

Had exactly the same problem, in my case it was the distributor.
Not a cheap fix at £130+vat for a new dizzy and coil, but starts first turn of the key now.
Have it checked out by a garage with the diagnostics, cost you £50ish but atleast you'll know what the problem is.
