1997 300Tdi manual, only had it 2 months and doing 72mile commute round trip a day near lake district, I keep it below 2250rpm and filled to brim twice and worked out I am getting 36mpg. I bought it for the winter and due to the fact you could get mid to high 30's in the mpg stakes, so far i am well pleased as my 3.0TD Landcruiser will only give high 20's due to being auto.

They quote over 40mpg on a 56mph run in the 200tdi manual owners manual. Auto might be another matter but a lot of these figures are from manual boxes :)

Last year we made our yearly trip to Dartmoor towing the horsebox, loaded with 300kg of Dartmoor pony. We were running late going down, so I was not being a kind driver to my D1, and only got about 20mpg. Coming back, I decided to take my time, and got in HGV slipstreams where I could. I worked it out that on the way back I got 26mpg, I think it was mainly due to allowing those nice big artics to move that nasty air out of my way. Just goes to show. Oh, and she had 210k on the clock

Well my girlfriend just used it this weekend, short trips heavy on the brakes and fast peddle and its back to 22mpg

So I figure, if I don't let her drive it accelerate at 2k RPM Auto, slip stream lorries when I go to the Alps in March I should get 40+ easy :D 30MPG would be pretty amazing though.

Over the last year my 300tdi manual has averaged 32 mpg, on 25% svo. Lowest was 29 mpg last Xmas/January, highest was 37mpg in November - that was cruising on the motorway at 56-60 on Asda's finest diesel!

with my 97 300tdi manual i used to have i got 30mpg around town and 37mpg on a long motorway run.

with my 98 300tdi auto i had after the manual i got 32mpg around town and 40mpg on the same 330 mile drive to my caravan in perranporth in cornwall from manchester ;)

300tdi auto between 20-25 on the motorway doing 70 ish and under 20 on a short run to work and back on cold mornings.I had a go at working it out once over a week , but really couldnt be arsed as its a 2 ton landrover and wasnt designed for economical driving .

That's pretty impressive for an auto!

I've got the fan removed, de-cat and de-egr'd too, but I still haven't managed to calculate mpg yet! At 110 quid to brim it I just put a bit in here and there :) it's not a daily runner anyway. I've got a Subaru outback as well and I catch the bus to work because I can't be arsed to sit in slow moving traffic for half of my life :)
