Disco 1 300TDI MPG

40 seems to be a bit of a lie given that the best figures possible are 35 IIRC unless it was all downhill!

I must admit that I don't mind burning propane in my outback because it's a sporty drive, but the disco really isn't. I prefer to drive it like a luxury tractor

Have you got one of those inserts in your air intakes that swirls the air in to a vortex? Guaranteed 10mpg extra!

Or the ones with magnets!

200's have better mpg than 300's. Because LR ****ed about with the 300's to try and get em thru the draconian new emissions tests that the EU was gonna be introducing. But then they never arrived. So egr & Particulate filters were a waste of fooking time and money :doh:

The way I look at it , is that yes it does use a lot of diesel but weigh that up against the wide availability and relatively cheap cost of parts compared to other manufacturers ( I own an old j*** so I know!) and that the only garage bill I pay out for has been for an m.o.t. every year.

but you beleive what you want , makes no difference to me.

Not if you buy a mig welder... a little bit here, and a little bit there..whenever another bit needs doing.

In all seriousness though, if I couldn't weld and do my own mechanics then there's no way I would own a disco of the age I do. I would never recommend one to anyone who couldn't do the same either. The fact that I can keep it on the road cheaply with cheap parts etc makes it a great vehicle for me personally though

To be fair, the auto torque convertor locks up at 52, so why shouldn't it do the same as the manual at around about peak torque on a long run ?

Increased drag thru the drivetrain is the main reason.
