Disabling 300tdi Alarm.

First off I know this is a common theme but I've done a search and can't find any answers to my particular problem.

Basically I was a rather silly sod and managed to lose my 1996 300tdi Disco keys. Key, fob and all disappeared into thin air. As the motor is just an offroad toy and general run around hack I simply replaced the ignition barrel and driverside door lock with ones from another landy, and bypassed the immobiliser for the starter motor and fuel pump.

All is well on that front, however as I now no longer have/need a fob I'm locking the door with the key. This activates the central locking and also the alarm, so when I unlock the door with the key again the alarm goes off. I found the alarm module (little green box of tricks under the dash) and tried unplugging that to see if it solved the problem, however it seems the central locking and alarm are both controlled by the same green box.

My question is can I disable the alarm while keeping the central locking operational? I'd assume it's just a case of cutting the alarm wires into the green box and leaving the central locking circuit intact, however I can't find any wiring diagrams for obvious reasons. If anybody has done something similar before your responses would be much appreciated.
 
The answer to your question is No.. remove both modules and go without remote c/locking or go and get a new fob or two from
Remote Key Fob Replacement give them a call and they will tell you the info they require to programme a fob for you.
Or remove both modules and purchase a 3rd party remote c/locking module/kit and fob and wire that into the existing master c/locking actuator in the drivers door.

Cheers, exactly what I didn't want to hear :( I'm sure there is a way of separating the alarm and central locking systems, it's just a case of finding out how. As the landy only set me back £500 I'd rather not spend over 10% of its value purely so I can lock it from afar!

Looks like I'll have to live without central locking for now. Thanks for your reply.

Before you do, try unplugging the hazard warning switch. If I remember correctly the alarm module has a feed to the hazard warning switch, thats how the alarm switches on the indicators.
Let me know if it works then I will try and find which wire you need to cut from the alarm module to stop the indicators flashing because of the alarm. Your indicators "should" work as normal, I think. Also your locking should work as normal.

Brilliant, I'll look into that. And Discool, I'm no longer using the remote fob as I don't have one, I'm quite happy to keep using the key to lock and unlock the doors, I'd just rather have the central locking working from the key. As far as I can work out the alarm and central locking are two separate systems but controlled by the same module, so i just want to stop the indicators flashing basically!

I'm sure with the hazard switch unplugged the indicators won't flash either, with it unplugged I've got no indicators at all so no good for daily use. If you have any idea which wire I need to cut from the alarm module that would be great. The alarm going off and immobiliser isn't a problem, I just want to stop those indicators going!

Might have something for you, found a sketch I made when I had a problem.
There's an alarm relay in the passenger footwell behind the plastic side panel.
It has five wires to it as follows,
87 red and green
87b green and white
30 purple
85 black and pink
86 blue and purple

I think this relay operates a link to the hazard warning switch and is switched from the alarm ecu module.
Terminals 85 and 86 are the relay coil terminals, disconnect either with the hazard switch in place and you might find that when you lock / unlock the
car the hazards don't flash but your indicators work as normal.
If that don't work try disconnecting the purple wire from terminal 30.
If either of these don't help, I can't do much more I'm afraid.

Thanks very much for that, I'll give that a go. Was hoping that there would be a supply to the hazard switch activated by the alarm that I could just disconnect, however it looks like as you say, the alarm activates the normal hazard flasher circuit so not as simple to tamper with.
 
Just thought I'd give you guys an update, have managed to mostly solve the problem. Unfortunately I think I've got a different alarm set up to nicedayforit as the alarm relay was actually soldered onto the circuit board inside the control module. I opened it up and using a test lamp found that the relay was activating two pins of the green multi plug. These two pins were for the right and left indicators, I've forgotten their corresponding wire colours already but they were both at the far outer of the green plug shown here:

So with those two wires disconnected I can lock and unlock my central locking and the indicators no longer flash. However an annoying point is that the relay inside the alarm module is still clicking away happily, and as it's soldered onto the circuit board and I've a feeling it also controls the central locking I can't shut it up. I'll have to soundproof the control module the best I can and live with it I think.
