I'm with Ratty.. clean the mud off when it's dirty but not bother much else..
mind you, mine's a discovery and I am reliably informed they are supposed to be shiny..

Round here there seems to be a theme of making Defenders and offroaders look the bollocks, but never actually use them offroad .. what's the point?
Chap a mile away from me has a Bronze coloured Defender. lifted, rocksliders, winch, twin cb aerials, 35" Simex (I mean, they're nearly £200 each!!) snorkel, and all the kit .. and it's not even been on Asdas bankings! Complete waste ...

When it's dirty, you can't get it dirty again... But when it's clean, you get to cake it up properly - makes a play day far more rewarding!
Here's what I do:
Take it to the imigrunt wash on a Saturday morning, make them sweat cleaning it, then drive round for a bit when it looks all shiny and new... Go to a play site on Sunday morning and everyone will look at you in your 'shiney' and think you're all show and no go. Then the fun begins! See how crapped up you can get it in a day.
Then, drive it to work for a few days, leaving mud in the car park when it rains - this also shows the neighbours you actually use the fecker properly. Then back to the imigrunts and make them clean it again ready for the next weekend!
Every so often I give it a really good jet wash in the drive way underneath to check it out and make sure all the stubborn muck is out of all the corners and stuff. And spend as long again cleaning the driveway out to get rid of the mud!
Giving it a good going-over yourself is always a good thing cos you can check it out properly for potential problems before they leave it out of action.

i drove around for a few weeks with my plough (towbar) full of sods... then moved the caravan and realised it had sunk about 5 inches into the grass so freed the sods off the plough and used them to fill the holes..

That just about sums it up for me realy.
Its just been left after the last few Green lane outings and I realy cant be bothered in this weather.
If I take it to our local Kosovans they just seem to give it a begrudged once over and never do a great job so I dont bother any more as its a waste of £10
I have a Jetwasher at home so will do it myself once the days get longer and warmer.

I like to keep mine clean but its a mission to clean it, id rather change a gear box. (On a clean one that is!) Then, when i finaly bother to do it, i end up getting it dirty again within a fiew days, every time without fail. :doh:
Oh...and that there is genuine off road application mud, not the shovled on sort!
