right well its the correct dipstick, well i guess. Took the dipstick out of my other landy another 2.25 petrol, and it still hit the crankshaft, it doesn't hit in my other landy, so how easy would it be for the shaft of the dipstick to be forced further in. what you guys and girls recon im scraching my head but thats all i can think of, unless its a different crank? 5 bearing ? how can i check

Are you sure its hitting the crankshaft and not the baffle in the oil pan?, try moving the dipstick tube around, till the dipstick will slide in to the sump.

positive you cna hear it knoking on the crankshaft with each rotation and yer, its definatly the crankshaft, when it slides in thats when you can hear it smashing and grinding on the shaft

have you tried measuring the length of the dipstick tube compared to your other landy? not 100% sure on dipstick tubes but if it fits on one and not the other can be the only difference really. are the dipstick tubes a push in fit?

dip stick tubes do get pushed in you need to measure length of tube from block to top of tube on both vehicles. i bet its either broken off and then been pushed in or just pushed in. this means ur oil level is also too low.

Have yer gone over a bloody big rock and tw-$ted your sump, and got a dish in it, so catching the bottom of the dipstick, happened to me once before, on a car.

nope, took off sump to day no dish :( dipsticks same length, no evendence of tube pushed in, so what the hell could be wrong anyone no if there is a different crank other than the 5 bearing or 3bearing , what does it look like,

no difference in sumps no, the 5 & 3 bearing are obvious to tell apart ;)

i had to shortern a new one this time on my 2.25 petrol and swap the fittings over,
