Cheers for the input. I have posted a similar topic on other, inferior Discovery sites and got a whole one reply. The massive other advice was "Google it." Wow, how do you think I found the forums in the first place? Duh! Anyhow. Now I am a devotee to LZ and looking for a 300TDi ES Auto. Nothing less, nothing more! When I find the ultiamte motor, I'll make sure I scream and shout about it on here and bore you to death with photo's and all that. Cheers again for the advice.

Fuel economy... will it better our Vectra with 18mpg? I have high hopes of getting into the middle twenties. I am always hopeful lol. Has to ba an auto I'm afraid!

Now I'm going to sleep happier. We get about 200 miles form teh 60 litre tank on our car and I'm fed up with hopping about on petrol forecourts and despising the car it's going in lol. I'm REALLY enthusiastic about it all at the mo. I was quite keen on LPG but wasted loads of fuel just listening to the engine and not going anywhere. Got to love a big V8 eh? I almost slipped into the dark side of Range rover but maintained my want for a Disco. Here we go, tools at the ready and mig welder is being dusted off :)

Hi again

Both my TDi300 were auto's and give an average of 28MPG mixed motoring, so yes you should see an improvement :)

Regarding the import, I wonder if the insurance companies are assuming you are importing a 'grey' import ? Eg a car manufactured abroad to a foreign spec, such as a Mitsubishi Shogun Pajero for example.

Not quite the same as a UK manufactured car that is exported and then re-imported. I can't see how they can justify the premium, but then again any excuse for them to make a buck!

I have an import TDi300 which spent first 7 years abroad in the far east and has absolutely no rust on her anywhere, seriously none.

If you come across an import, would be worth looking at one so you can compare the condition between a native one, you may be surprised.

Happy hunting

If I had let my wife drive the Disco before I bought it I wouldnt have discovered the err pleasures of Disco 1 ownership.

You know the lying on your back feeling every sunday fixing something that broke / fell off in the week

Still its been a great excuse to increase my tool colletion:D

Yeah, but one day they'll all have all new bits, what are we going to do then??:behindsofa:

I'm led to believe the increased premium was due to the fact I was looking at a Pajero and the cost of parts are greater. God I can feel the shower of kicks for saying Pajero! Anyhow, I am also led to believe that exported vehicles are not fitted with adequate security for the UK market as Tokyo doesn't have a suburb where mutants steal your lovely disco to reverse through Currys front window. I am not sure but feel quite confident about this. Do you have a Thatcham (Berkshire too!) alarm/Immob fitted or do your insurers demand it at all? I have seen an import in the trader!

That is true, mine has the standard LR immobiliser, I think they all get the immobiliser regardless, but has no alarm.

As you say probably not required due to reduced crime rate or noise pollution requirements due to false alarms perhaps.

Regards

When I had my first Disco about 8 yrs ago the insurance co insisted I had a cat 1 alarm fitted or they wouldn't touch me. Cost about £350 at the time.

The one I have now is just a toy and having just the standard immobiliser seems fine. Maybe the old 300's aren't so sought after by the crims these days.............................................................................

knowing they wont get past the end of the road before it breaks down  :pound: :pound:
