Cheers Discomania... Should it be GL4 in the transfer box?

I remember a while back the Landy garage near me sent me away with some TRX stuff (not sure what it was) but then a guy in the garage I used to use told me it was the wrong stuff and that's why the transfer box died... (admitedly it was a second-hand disco box which went in, so could have been on it's way out)

The GL thing isnt so much of a rating, its the advances in technology (I believe) GL5 superseeded GL4.

EP90 is EP90.

The reason you dont want the GL5 in your Tbox is due to something in it damaging the brass bits. GL4 doesnt have this something.

If your only doing Diffs, stick with GL5, its easier to get your hands on.

Why does the landrover handbook say api gl5 for the transfer box then?

Later versions are OK with GL5 but I dunno when they changed the bushes away from phosphor-bronze.
You're safe with GL4 anyway.
Any decent motor factor (i.e. not Halfords) should stock it or be able to get it. I paid £14 for the last 5L can I bought.
