Toady I was on my way to off roadin when I heard a grinding noise and loss of power I pulled over and had a look under at the front prop shaft and I noticed the back part of the diff where the prop shaft attches has come very loose and is nearly out this explains the loss of drive but what would cause this and how can I fix it.

Could be a number of things ............. loose flange nut ........ collapsed bearings ......... buggered housing ......... and the list goes on

A full strip down will be needed really ............... easier to buy a secondhand diff probably ;)

take some pictures and post them here before you start buying another diff Luke, something may well just have worked loose

If lose of drive is one of the symptoms and the drive flange is loose wont it have damaged the drive face and splines etc? ...........

Spent most of yesterday morning going around my Disco and tightening bolts etc as the previous keeper seemed to think that finger tight was good enough

I took the flange nut off today to try and find out what the problem is but cant remove the inside part to see if the bearings have gone does the hole diff have to be removed from the car in order to remove the flange part and bearings.
