My L-series has failed its MOT on smoke emissions. Passed on everything else. I had put a new air filter on and put injector cleaner in the fuel. Is there anything else I can do except take it to a main dealer?
And I don't want to burn it.

I'll try it and see if it works, do they put it in prior to the test or drive it about before the test and try to clean the system with it?

I'll also clean the egr valve and maf. I also read that removing the air filter prior to test can help, has anyone tried this.

Not sure I'd put petrol in with your diesel. It'll damage the rubber seals, which are lubricated by the diesel, but the petrol acts as a solvent and disolves it.

Check EGR and crankcase breather filter first.

have you tried the italian decoke method ?

Put extra doses of the injector cleaner in & give it plenty of welly on a good run.
Sometimes the exhaust itself can soot up if the vehicle is never driven hard & this can also be blasted out at the test. Don't know the L-series but check all intercooler hoses to make sure they're sound. After that & the other checks it might be time to get the injectors & pump timing professionally checked out.

Passed MOT on second attempt. I've been too busy trying to preserve the drive-train now its getting old that I haven't driven it hard. Goes like stink now.
