Hi,

The landy i bought has a diesel leak from the Fuel Pump... its a series 3 running 2.25 enginge.

the guy I got it from put a new banjo bolt on as he thought this was the problem.... but it hasnt solved it..

any ideas please?

Are they expensive to replace the fuel pump?

cheers

lots of pumps come up on Ebay cheap enough, but try and locate the problem.

Likely its just a seal leaking, which would only cost a couple of beer tokens.

I just thought as a quick fix just best to replace it, there £15 on ebay .... other then put new copper rings on not sure what else to do to try and fix it

If you've reused the copper washers you could try annealing them. Or put new washers on. Pumps are cheap and easy to fit.

you dont say where on the pump its leaking.
we're presuming its a banjo, but it might be the diaphragm.

give us some piccies.

Hi... Sorry being thick, the guy said it was leakng from the pump and pointed to where it was... on closer inspection i dont think this is the pump I think its the fuel filter..

please see pic...( not my engine just found on interenet)... he said he over tightend the banjo bolt.. before and snapped it... so he put another one in... but still leaking.

Do you think I should get a new one... and if so what is it called?

cheers

That is the fuel filter housing, which is good in a way its a whole load easier than a pump.
There should be 2 copper washers, one each side of the banjo union, if not replace it, also check the face where the banjo screws onto, if its damaged either replace the filter housing, or you might be able to sort it by taking the housing off and rubbing the face on some emery on a flat surface, but make sure you gwt all the crap out before you put it back on.

i your arrow points to the long bit, as dr pepper sez, there should be a copper washer here,(casting/housing side) the othe side if i remember right, is a compression fitting with an olive on it. (pipe side)
overtightening either can damage the sealing surfaces, and if its been tightened enough to shear a bango, check the threads in the casting as these may be damaged too, in which case its a new casting/housing.

Hi,

I have gone home to have a good look in the light..... unfortunately its not the fuel filter housing... see pic.

It looks like the banjo bolt on the fuel pump... can any one advise which how I could fix it... or which fuel pump to buy please?

Ah, that's the expensive injector pump. I'm no diesel expert but I think that's a low pressure overspill back to the lift pump. There should be a soft washer (copper?) either side of the banjo bolt. You might get away with fibre washers here, they're more forgiving of poor contact surfaces. If the leak is where the solid pipe enters the banjo it could be a distorted flare and a new bit of pipe should sort it.

Take the washers out and heat them with a blowtorch to anneal (soften) them. Let them cool slowly.

Then put them back in.

If that doesn't sort it, stick a bit of silicone gasket compound on either side of the washers before you bolt it up.

Easy!!

erm thats the high pressure side, 2000psi ish. silicone gasket aint gonna work.
think the original fitment was copper washers, but would have to confirm with the parts manual, which i dont have at the mo.
alternative is call in to a diesel specialist, they'll tell you what you need, and probably supply it.

Parts manual doesn't specify the type of washer, but I'm fairly sure that's the return to the lift pump so it won't be under a lot of pressure

I have some copper new copper washers, So I will stick some new one on and see if that helps, If not I can always try a little bit of petrol resistant sealant.

Are ther specific torque setting I should be tightening these bolts to?... if this doesnt fix it any recommendation on best place for parts... I looked on ebay but nothing it coming up.

thanks for the help guys much appreciated

feed in as far as i remember is the union on the left of pic (top of pump), spill return is on the right (bottom of pump)

(may have these the wrong way round)

high pressure unions are to the left on the circumference of the round bit.

apologies with the pic, i could only find a half dismantled pump with both unions on!

if need be i should have a couple of spare pumps in the shop (origin unknown) that i can either photo or send you.

thanks mate, much appreciated. I will see if I can fix it and if not give you a shout. I will happily send you beer tokens for a repalcement :)

whip the banjo bolt off, check the threads on the bolt and pump, use your new washers, ive had leaks on the spill rail banjos bit of plumbers PTFE tape round the threads works wonders

Well 4 hours in the rain / cold... and.... still got a leak ...argh !!!! I cant physically see it dripping from the banjo bolt... buy from ( see picture)

As soon as I start ot you can see it filling up.... prob is i'm getting hacky looks from the neighbours as there are lots of rainbow spots in the rain every where.

I tried new copper washes... blue petrol resistant gasket sealent, and nipped it up as much as I dare and still leaks... I might try plubmber tape.. will it dissolve with the petrol?

Please help.... help
