You need a bar to push against it on the fulcrum to take the belt off, how easy did it retract?
It was kind of easy not silly, as I say belt came loose a couple of times with the new tensioner always assumed was me not installing it properly. Out of warranty so will just order a new one and move on as lesson learned.

Sounds about right. I'd be tempted to check all other pulleys spin freely and quietly.

Seems fine to me. How did you top up oil in tensioner?
The only way I can think of is to gently remove the top seal. The tensioner on mine certainly feels like it's oil damped, it takes a lot of force to release tension on the belt and it seems to move with more than just spring resistance.

Ok cheers will have a look.

Best way to check crank pulley damper is ok?

Don't quite know what I need to look for?

See rangerollerdt's note just not sure.

I was asking the others how to check lol.

As Data says the top comes off but don’t put it down in its side, fill it & fit it. Some may ooze out when tension is reapplied, wipe it then you know it’s full.
Ahh ok lol. In that case then damper is fine quiet as a mouse. Think tensioner needs top up. Thanks you.

I was also shocked how much oil this engine needed from dry just shy of 9 litres I had to buy and fill. I saw it in RAVE guess the engine is a big unit.
