good evening everyone. my name is Steve and i am the proud owner of a used and abuse 90. i'm from devon.

its not too much exciting i'm afraid but we like it all the same. we used to have an SJ but had to sell it due to needing a sensible car. well we got sick of the sensible car so got this landy.

it has a few teething problems i was hoping some of you may be able to help with.

1. the starter is a bit hit and miss. it always spins up but only engages on the 2nd, 3rd attept. is it new starter time? or can i take it out and grease up the spindle?

2. The brakes are awful!! it has the servo and disks on the front. i think the rear drums need adjusting and a good bleed is needed. once again, any common faults? or i it just an old car? you couldn't lock the wheels up even if you tried!! you need to pu some serious pressure on the pedal to get the brakes to work.

thats all the problems for now.

200tdi, PAS, diff guard, recovery points etc etc

sounds like the shoes and the disc pads might be a tad long in the tooth mate
check it out and get back to us sure there is 1 person on here that will give you a hint :D
hope you got thick skin and a good and worped sense of humour ;)
oh and give redhand a shout he'll give you some tips on how to make it look more like a thrown together deepender :D (you got far too many panels the same colour );)

whys everyone refer to them as dependers? prope newb question right there!!

brakes wise i thought i'd replace shoes, pads, new flui and check stuff works ok then go from there.

i have a new passenger door to put on that came with it as the current one is a it floppy!! thats another shade of blue :)

a chap at work has some nato green i can have for free so it may just get greened up... who knowns

does anyone on here know this car then? have i bought a heap? :p

the air intake is in the left wing near the intercooler. i think it was originally a TD. the guy i bought it off said that was the best place for it a it made his life easy when he converted it. whats an NA?

NA is essentially a TD without the T (Naturally Aspirated) and you can tell em coz they haven't got the grill on the left hand side like the TDs and 200TDIs do, for the air intake.

Putting the air intake in the engine bay, especially near the intercooler, is a dangerous cop out coz a ssoon as you wade in water deep enough for the fan or pulley to touch, it is directly in line with the air intake and will throw the contents of the puddle yer in straight into the air intake, and there will be almost certainly no bleedin (!!!:D:D) way out other than through the engine with a sudden stop and lots of damage!

oh! i was thinking of fitting a B&Q special diy snorkel so hopefully that will sort that problem out. the chap i bought it off said it wasn't the best solution but was certainly the easiest! he has pointed the intake right in the corner behind the headlight though which is about as out of the way as they get i think.

thanks for the heads up though. so much to learn on landrovers compared to other 4x4's or cars!

edit: engine picy. does that make sense?
