My Wilt****re friend, if I could afford a set of ARB's (im 17 - student) I would certaibly have them. I have seen plenty in action :)
i was lucky enough to have them front n rear on me rr bobtail and they performed brilliantly in competition couldnt fault them, but yes they are exspensive..

tbh for your situation i dont really see why you would need a locker of any description.

i dont have lockers yet on my disco bobtail and its used all the time for offroading and punch challenges.

never had a problem with arbs and never seen one fail in competition

its the same old argument those that have detroits will say there the best and others are crap

those that have arbs will say others are crap

in competition i preferred the arbs that gave me the option of entering said obstacle and deciding whether i wanted to lock the diffs or not

i would prefer to negotiate the obstacle without the aid of any locker but if i chose to lock the diffs that would be my decision

It's something to do with abut in a valve been plastic in the arb and Ashcroft have copied the design but made it metal,

As for the detroit locker making a noise well i had to say it not making a nooise like i have seen people saying, it's started clunking when it unlocks and locks again not I carnt live with tho

Them that have a clunking noise don't have it set up right or it's fooked

You get a clicking sound you can only just heare

It's newly built rebuilt by crown diffs, its been in for over 400 miles and it's only cluncked when accelerating out of tight corners (twice) this is after i have cleaned my intercooler and was driving enthusiasticlly have read that this is the locker sensing wheels spin and locking again befor its lined back up fully it's nothing like the bang I got when my old diff gave up tho,

I get the clicking when cornering or driving on and off my drive or parking,

Sounds just like its set up right :D

hmm,
here is my experience with detroits:

detroit truetrac in front - no problems from scratch, even broke halfshaft and cv joint and truetrac still alive..

but detroit locker on rear... its pain in the ass..
broke halfshaft, when this happen it kills also few teeths on detroit.. dont know why.. detroit was installed 1 month only..

searching teeth wheel and found just one seller in usa which wants around 200usd wo shipping. didnt find any seller in EU. btw eaton company no answer at all..

so iv contacted company where i bought locker, they cant get such part.. but offered me new detroit locker for 100quids, and leaved me broken one also.
accepted 100quids offer, but in meantime ordered locker from czech manufacturer and im very happy with it more than year, and im sure when something broke then i just pickup phone and order needed part.

broken detroit locker:

its marked: eaton 71425 i think catalog list says 71427, if someone know where to get it.. i can repair broken detroit then and sell it.. :)

also have new unopened detroit locker if someone is interested :)

ps: sorry for my english

Brad,
Try speaking to Crown Diffs. I got mine from there and it works perfectly. I also broke half shafts, but have changed to Ashcroft shafts since and have had no breakages.

Been watching this thread as im looking at lookers/LSD's, just to throw this in the mix, I have seen these around, are they anygood or just cheap crap?

Challenger Diff Lockers & Air Compressor Defender 90 110 Discovery 1 RRC - NEW | eBay

I only use mine for fun off roading, no challanges e.t.c but I need a new rear diif soon anyway so was thinking on possibly the Ashcroft LSD or a detroit. Its not my daily and used just for off roading so I can live with the downsides...

Never heard of them before, i had a little google search but nothing came up.

Maybe one of these guys knows?

Looks like the Chinese copy of atb and when they break thy explode!!

Arbs when they fail they break parts but the gets are usually ok the Chinese ones Re worse

There will be in influx of diff licks and winches from china just wait

Those if they are the Chinese one are v expensive can get them for about350 ish but are mac!!

I spoke to Steve at crown diffs, very helpful guy, he can supply prity much everything mentioned, would recommend him to anyone, He will explain everything

Jongould: i bought same from polish guy which claims its arb, but it wasnt. locker build quality is bad and material also, supplied cables to compressor are poor - pins in connectors doesnt hold well, etc.. this "arb like" locker broke in first trip (first time it works, when needed to use it second time then it brokes)
moto: we are not so rich to buy cheap things..

D90mitch: truetrac - no you will even dont know that you have it installed :)
but other side is that it eventualy cant hepl you when you need - it works only when both wheels touching ground.. hope you understand what i mean, my native lang is different and probably cant well explain..
