i've been thinkin of my next project (bin offshore for 2 weeks so not done anything on my current ones and had too much time thinking o daft ideas!! )

so does anyone know if a rover V8 with its origional 1972 RR gearbox would be compatable with a series landy transfer box?? i've got all the RR transmision as far as the prop shafts but the RR transfer box is u/s (it went on a aberdeen to glasgow trip without any oil in it, didnt like it and melted)

i'm wanting to mount this in a series 2a thats 2 1/4 petrol engine is on its last legs. its chasis is solid but i'd need to find some beefier axles and brakes. i'm not wantin to use the series gearbox as it sounds like a box of nails in a washing machine tho!

anyone think this would work? hopefully by tomorrow i'll be home and can get on with the rest of my landy projects rather than thinkin of new ones!!!!

A mate round the corner has a Series I with complete Rangie running gear (Engine, gearbox, t/box, axles, brakes etc) and it's quite a machine. Requires some fettling to get everything working and a fair bit of custom fabrication, but it can be done. Donor rangie was a 2 door classic, on a custom chassis (so it's a coil sprung SI from designa chassis in Donny). You will probably have to cut, move and re-weld some bits of the chassis to get a rangie engine and box onto the chassis, and if you want decent tubular headers, they won't fit as they'll eat into the inner wings.

dint the early Rangie boxes have a built-in transfer box? - see here

"The gearbox and transfer box are both part of the same casing, which can make removal and overhaul of the 'box a pain. The complete gearbox assembly is exceptionally heavy and bulky and its removal should be well planned. Fortunately, the transfer gearbox, reverse idler gear and some of the selector mechanism can be overhauled with the gearbox in the vehicle."

i wuz only sayin, my dear Slobbo that as he is looking fur a new transfer box - if its all in the one casing, then thite mite be a bit difficule.

As yu know - i knoe fook all about these things , so can only go on wot i is told :(

sorry i int got me special glasses fer reading between the lines on today. and i'm still in shock at the worlds biggest 4x4 forum vanishing the way it did. anyway int you got a v8 to find fer yours?

i was a bit surprised too - mind yu I think even judging by the "Mr Slobby school of ****-take" that was a bit ott - it got so it werent eben worth looking at.

V8 - i gather Jag V12 is the latest "go faster" mod

i'v returned to the real world now so i'l go have a look over that old gear box/transfer box and see whats what. suppose i'd better try an finish off me engine rebuild before i take on anythin daft! :D

v12 you say........ it'll never catch on
