hi all new to the defender section have been on the series and disco sections but now have a defender ,
first question is i am taking the original defender 2.5 turbo diesel out and want to put my 200tdi disco engine in what doo i need to do i have seen ion here that i need to change the bell housing plate off the original engine to the 200tdi and i have also read that i need to remove some studs out of the defender gear box so which is right ,
second question is will the exhaust and inlet manifold off the defender engine fit the disco engine so as i can use all the original pipes from the airbox and so on and keep the turbo in the same place
there will be more i am sure but thats a start
cheers all

offer engine up to gear box and remove studs that dont line up mostly bottom ones and dowels if there, you will be lrft with more than enough struds left to do the job,td5 has only 8 m10 bolts holding gear box ,we have allways fitted them like that never been a problem exhaust and manifold is possible but i would use adapter of ebay (made to do job ) and keep engine standard with intercooler ,fit electric fan

thanks just found the sticky lol it is now read and sort of understood wish me luck , engine out of defender tommorrow afternoon is first step

anyone recon its do'able in a weekend? if i have the engine all ready to drop straight in, and use a bought conversion kit (intercooler pipes and downpipe) im planning on doing it to a daily, i can get a disco and have it all fully prepared and ready to go in, and can get hold of an engine crane. id rather not have to book a million days off work!

Certainly is, if you've prepped well, a good long day will suffice ;)

Yep - definitely do-able in a weekend. It'll be two fairly manic days but as long as you're well prepared it should be possible. I took a week off work, but didn't need all of that time - plus I was making stuff up as I went along!

if your kitted out with all the gear and kit ready to go it,s doable in 4hrs with two of you working at it;):D:p

ahh thats good news, il buy a disco then. there will be two of us on a nice flat tarmac-ed drive that is sheltered. both of us are pretty good with tools too. might book friday off just to be sure ;-) do you have to change anything on the logbook? with it being a different engine number and chassis number?

noo, not changing the chassis. just guna buy a disco for the engine and transfer box. and anything else that may be worth keeping, (axles?).
