Hi folks, new owner of a 2010 puma. I want to swap the battery for a yellow top so I can add the winch etc.

Is there any guidance on disconnecting the battery? I mean, if I disconnect does the immobiliser through a wobbler? Or is it out and in simple as.

I read in some places immobiliser has to be reset?

Thanks.

Don't know much about these new cars but if in doubt you could always link a third battery across the leads as you switch over. It wouldn't have to be a great battery, just enough to run the systems.

I had a Transit Connect tdci and there were no issues disconnecting the battery on that. The handbook said it would take a few miles for the ECU to "re-align itself to the engine" during which time there could be "unusual running characteristics" but l can't say l ever noticed any.

Taken from the Defender 2.4 TDCI workshop manual;
Make sure no data is required from the ECM as battery cable disconnection will erase fault codes and idle / drive values held in the keep alive memory.
Record audio unit keycode.
To avoid alarm going off; 1. Loosen ground cable nut. 2. Turn ignition key to run position. 3. Turn ignition key to off position. Within 17 seconds of turning ignition to off, release battery ground cable from battery.

Pretty much the same info is provided in the owners handbook for my 2.2 model, but says 15 seconds not 17.
Hope that helps.
