The nut holding the steering drop arm to the steering box ???
Biggest one I've found so far.

My question was about spanner sizes, actually.

I know it's wise "to buy larger sizes when you need them", but because we'll be on an overland journey in the Defender, that won't be easy or even possible. ("Here we are in the middle of the proverbial nowhere; need an X mm ring spanner but it's 300 km to the nearest village, etc.")

Above 23 mm, say, what sizes might be needed?

32mm flat spanner for viscous fan.

32mm socket/spanner for R380 G/box drain plug.

as mentioned the 52mm box socket/spanner for the hub nuts.

36mm on a TD5

I can't remember what size the drop arm to power steering box bolt is but It's gotta be around the 32-36mm size.

36mm. Ive got one.
52MM for the hub nuts - and a spare set of bearing for them too.
and a GOOD breaker bar to go with them.

yip. i took a 2ft bar to compliment my 1/2" socket set to morocco

never got around to using it though.

30mm and 27mm are commen as well

27mm is wheel nut size... I know, cos ive broken a socket, bent my t bar and broken my wheel brace removing one. Bastid...

my wheel nuts are 24mm.
