Hi guys, I have not long purchased a 93 defender 90. It is fitted with a 200 tdi. I am just after some advice, on tick over it rattles and vibrates a fair bit but if I pick the revs up slightly it goes. I know I should expect rattles and bangs but this vibration is quite annoying, I have checked all engine/ gearbox mounts and exhaust and all look in order. Any ideas?? Thanks

Might still be the engine mounts
I replaced my 200tdi mounts with some cheap ones but they were rock hard and vibrate like crazy, so I bought a set from glencoyne engineering after reading his site and all I can say is it's transformed the car, still a todo obviously but a lot nicer to be In now.

Mines vibrated and rattled like hell on tick over, I adjusted the idle slightly and its made some amount of difference. Easy to do, look it up

i darnt go over 50 in my 1989 90 or i feel like its going to drop apart. The mrs wont even go in it..

+1 and the bonnet stay. I have a prop (grp bonnet) and the bugger rattles like fook on tickover & when reversing.

It's possible you may have an injector fault causing a misfire at low rpm !! Get a mechanic to check it for you !!

I had something similar a while back, turned into a screeching rattle type thing after a few weeks. Try checking the flat bracket on the down pipe, you may want to take it off or at least loosen it to check that it hasn't snapped.

noisy clutch? if u give it a bit of gas when stationary does it sometimes get rid of the noise?
