Hello everyone
I am still looking at buying a defender 90 puma and have decided on the Keswick green.

my question is ….. do I buy a model with less spec ( heated seats , rear seats etc ) for less money and add them in or ….. pay the extra £10-12k to have them come with it ?

It seems like a huge difference for some extras but I know modifications can be costly too

Check that the ones with lower prices include vat. Privately owned vehicles usually don't have vat added, ex-business vehicles might add it.

Well, it depends on what you want to use it for.
The best accessory in a Defender is a heated screen, and that can be fitted for around £500 if yours doesn't have one.

Aircon is useful, more so in a Puma because there's no bulkhead vent flaps and the transmission tunnel gets hot on long journeys.

Do you need the rear seats?

The XS is the one with everything in it.

You can buy an XS Hard Top for less money, and add the rear seats/windows but it's expensive particularly if you want the interior trim as well.

Personally if you've got the money l
would go for an XS Station Wagon, but be careful you don't pay over the odds....there's some silly prices being asked out there.

Then there's the road tax to consider.

Puma 2.4's are nearly £600 if they are Station Wagons, everything else is £230.

After 2011 they were all classed as Commercial so road tax is £230.

Be aware of your local LEZ. Many of these schemes penalise older diesels (i.e Defenders) but some have exemption for vehicles classed as cars (most Puma 2.4 Station Wagons but none of the 2.2's)

I can’t believe the prices myself
Are people actually paying this kind of money ?

It’s not like there aren’t many options for sale on auto trader

Quite hard to say. As far as I know, there is no way to find out what vehicles actually sold for.
Some of the vehicles for sale appear for a long time on the various platforms, which would indicate that the sellers have a hard time getting the asking price.

I priced up the new defender and pre vat for a decent spec they are around £48k which is very close to some of these old defenders

I do think the old ones look better
