Hello there Guys,
As i'm a short arse i was wondering if anyone has ever fitted bonnet struts to assist lifting their lid to their beloved 90/110. Having a few probs reaching top reach and securing arm when lifting the lid.. As i have front bars i have to clamber onto my bumper to lift of lower it.
Any advise or photos of where you fixed the stuts would be very very grateful.

many many thanks in advance

they are out there, I have seen them sold as kits.

Got a question for you though. If you cant reach half way up the standard one now, how do you plan on grabbing the bonnet to pull it down when its up on the gas struts? It will be a whole lot harder I would imagine!

Good question and well thought of,
i don't mind standing on the bumper to pull down the lid, the prob lies when i have to lift the lid higher to release the bonnet stay then attempt to attach it to the lid prior to lowering it down, i've had many occasions when i,ve tried to hold the lid with the stay to raise and lower almost loosing the bonnet as we all know when we lift them to much..

all yer need is a short bit of rope attached to the underside of the bonnet!

ffs, yoof of terday - no inginuity at all.

Hi there Trew,
we've had a lot a bloody rain lately eh?
If i was to fit the struts then rope or tiewrap was to complete the task in hand.

I've got hold of some struts i just want to know how or where to attach them..

Hope all is well m8?

straight from the link from the site. i'm too good to you!

I bought a kit a few years ago down at Malvern, it cost about £20 for the kit, the gas struts were off a Lancia delta, then there were two L shaped plates which fitted on to the bonnet, and these had the ball to attach the struts to, and on the wing there was just the ball fitting. The struts need a metal clip over the end, so you can you pop it off the ball fitting, and lift the bonnet fully open. Here's some pics of the struts and the measurements, but they might be different to your landy as I had to drill the holes on the wing in a different place from the instructions, as the brake servo was in the way.'

Dragging up an old thread here;

I'm looking to do the same, however i want to mount my spare wheel on the bonnet again. On the last truck i would just take the wheel off then open the bonnet or carry a large pole to prop it up once i'd lifted it with the wheel on but this time i'm looking to use struts to ease the opening of said bonnet...

Any ideas of a pair of tough struts from any vehicle which has to lift some weight usually i can bodge onto mine??

Would need to be decent struts to take the wheel anorl:eek: Ya might not be able to get the bonnet open either:D
Wheel on the bonnet gets in the way of view in just the wrong way when you are trying to pick your way over dodgy ground, int there somewhere you can strap it in the back?

I was happy with it on the front on the last beasty, i use mine everyday for work and i'm in and out of the back door all the time. I'm replacing it soon and would rather the wheel was well out the way of the rear.

Lifting the bonnet etc is easily enough with a wheel on but would be nice if a pair of struts took some of the work out of opening it with a wheel mounted on the bonnet ;)

Best of luck with that, sure itll be good if you can get the struts, I would think s/h off a car tailgate would be ok for that.
Think Ill just carry on with the piece of wood meself, but theres no wheel on the bonnet. :)

Having your spare ont Bonnet is all well and good till it falls down on yer head andand traps you lol. Trust me been there, done it but have I learned, have I hell

I bought a pair from a Honda civic for this job.

Way too powerful for a non wheeled bonnet. I can just about move one at a time with my bodyweight compressing against the floor. But if you do go for something strong enough to work, be careful with your wings.... IMHO unless you do some serious re-inforcing your wings will be destroyed.

Nice idea ;)
