My 110 had a split charge system fitted by LR special vehicles. (ex utilities landy) it could be the trigger for the split charge relay???

allus thought it were for rev counter option though.
wouldnt know without seeing it it may not be std alt ,but is tacho feed for rev counter ,egr needs feed too as function is rev related ,ecu feed wires often dont have std tracer but colour with tracer coloured rings spaced out

So - just to recap.............. you said you only need 2 wires on the alternator , but as we have seen a lot of people with 300tdi defenders have a third wire - the mysterious "white wire" that is part of the no charge light as i said in post 2 or 3 - but you begged to differ, so we are now on page 7.........................................

we wouldnt differ if you checked the manual wiring diagram i did post a link to one ,and ive listed the uses of 3 wires if a 3rd is fitted

because unless its been altered thats how lr built them ,and i do have a fair bit of experience with them rather than just googling

My defender had the three wires to the old alternator, my new alternator only had the two terminals so i just didn't bother with the white wire cos it ain't got a rev counter anyway. 3 months later I've had no ill effects.
Rave shows the white as being the signal to the rev counter
