I have recently had my 2.4tdci remaped by bas and it is brilliant. I then installed a performance intercooler and silicon pipes. Not shortly after I now get a squealing sound on acceleration but only last for a few seconds in gears 1 2 3. If im steady away in 5th or 6th an then gradually accelerate then it may squeal for a few seconds. I haven't plugged my interface in yet? What sort of sound would the fan viscous coupling make if I damaged it whilst installing my intercooler. What else should I look for?

Only thing with my knowledge would be uj's, give me a good shake and check for movement.

If squeaking is bad then spray some wd40 in them and see if it goes away as they could be dry. Could be something completely different but that my 2p.

It's something in the engine bay if I have it parked up and rev upto 3thousand revs it's squeals but not all the time it's worst when the engine is accelerating underload?

I've tried silicon lubricant and a little spray of wd40 on the belt Still nothing an also is it spring tension so theres no adjustment you can try yourself,?

It does sound like a slipping belt but I don't think it's the belts, could the turbo make a similar sound if the hoses are leaking from the intercooler or anywhere else and what would you expect if it was running dry with no oil being pumped through the turbo. It's just suspect after it started when I installed a new intercooler and hoses?

Can I just say that there is no power loss it's running perfect but with this belt type slipping noise?

Hi guys,

I've exactly the same issue...I know this is an old post, but was there ever an outcome as to the actual cause of the squealing?

The same engine, same remap, same sound?
Yep...even same intercooler.

I'm sure BAS will sort it for me (if it's anything to do with their mods), but the guy I need to speak to isn't around until early next week and I've 400 miles to drive before then!

Was hoping it was something simple?

How long ago did you have it done? You might be getting more of a turbo whistle now that you've upped the power output with the remap?

Defo not a Turbo whistle..it's intermittent too..I'll take easy tomorrow and I'm sure BAS will help as soon as they can.

Is it just on acceleration or does it make a noise on tick over ? If so, have you tried squirting some water on the aux belt? I'm not sure if they have issues on that engine, but worth a try.

Just under acceleration...and only under load....very difficult to get it to do it in neutral.

I think I'm on the right track! Pete from BAS (Top bloke) contacted me while he was still on holiday! Apparently its a common fault...gasket between the turbo and engine fails...Begins letting air out under load.

Hes recommended upgrading the gasket to http://www.4x4overlander.com/product/nakatanenga-turbo-manifold-gasket-2/ says its made from uprated material and should do the trick!

I'll post back once replaced:D
Well, it's a sort of turbo whistle :D Very tenuously, I'll admit.................;)
