Hi,
I have been trying to solve a grinding issue i am having with my gearbox. It usually happens when i am changing down from 4th to 3rd and also from 3rd to 2nd. I have had the gearbox out when i was doing the engine rebuild and changed all the baulk rings and springs. I noticed that the baulk rings that i took out had minimal wear.
This leads me to believe some of the gears need replacing.
My understanding would be, when the baulk ring is pushed against the corresponding gear, there should be some resistance before it fully meshes with the gear (to synchronise the speed). I found wasn't happening. There is also a steel ring between two of the baulk rings which is possibly worn.
Has anyone ever had to replace gears due to wear ? Possibly the box had been run with low oil.
