Hi all, I know you can fit a defender non cat front pipe to decat the 300TDi Disco, but does anyone know the exact type - paddocks gives different year variants...

Also, is it possible to fit without a ramp? I do have 6 spare wheels which i can use as a makeshift ramp, but that will only give me an extra 12" under the front axle, will it be possible to get the necessary movement on the pipe to feed it through???

I have saved money in the past by removing the cat, knocking the insides out and sticking a piece of exhaust pipe through it tacked at each end to hold in place. Then replaced the cat with no inards.:D

but for £20 for a brand new section, in't really worth the hassle...

Plus i haven't sorted me welding set yet!
20 quid ta me is a lorra money and yer dont have to weld it if its a tight fit.:)

Re fitting the downpipe you need to lift the chassis, not the axles, imo, so as to give a bit more working room.

I achieved this with the std jack and a couple of axle stands plus a chunk of heavy timber.

I found getting the old one out was the difficult bit, after that it was a piece of cake.

Re the model no for the pipe, you are right saying there are loads of TDi 300 defenders listed, but if you check the part no it's always the same - ESR2297 from memory.

However, having done this once, when I do it againI will use the Disco non-cat downpipe with the flexy section (£60+vat) as I've found with the solid pipe too much engine vibration is carried around the car.

Cheers
Dave
