De-cat Downpipe

Well today, reading of you guy's good luck,fitting the decat pipe,I bit the bullet-jacked the bus up-sprayed the rusty nuts with bio-fitted socket and breaker bar and -bloody hell the nuts came undone!!Had the pipe since summer -but every time I looked at those rusty nuts,I thought no,they will shear.Anyway all back together and seems a good un-quite a lot of smoke initially, but soon cleared-can deffo hear the turbo now-also has a more throaty sound-need to take it for a blast somewhere-difficult going anywhere in saturday traffic-thanks for the heads up about jacking chassis up for clearance
 
Then you could try cutting the cat open, removing the innards and welding it back up.
Or you could try welding a piece of pipe in it's place.
Or if the cat is not blocked just leave it.

A quick search on tin'ternet turned up these on ebay, yeah 2nd hand but cheaper

Thanks for the info Stu, I see the first one made £54 with p&p, the other will probably make a similar amount. Seems most things for a TD5 cost more than any other Land Rover, I'm guessing thats because they had a relatively short production span (99-04). Did find one at Paddocks for £55 + vat + delivery. I have a mate in the motor trade so will look into that as a cheaper option.

Just sold my old Catalyst for £46.

Thats a right result and £25 profit on the deal, as well as more power and better consumption.... :)

Oh well never mind, but i am sure a lot more de-catting will go on now :D
 
I have ramps if you want to have loads of space to undo the nuts. Then we can put it on the floor and I have a high lift jack to take the chassis up to get the old pipe out and the new one in.
 
Interested to read the info on here about the De-Catting of vehicles.

If I input my 5 penny worth.

My MOT'r advises that Diesels "CAT" is actualy a PARTICULATE FILTER and any diesel manufactured before March 2001 can have it removed. Otherwise if it isnt there or not working (ie BLOCKED) then it will fail the MOT.

Petrol cars can have the CAT removed if they are operating on LPG for the most of their time on the road. Other wise they will also fail the MOT.

In my experience, the Diesel goes one hell of a lot better with out a particulate filter fitted as the exhaust path is more flow efficient. As your power is more availalbe then the upshot is, the ecomony is if anything improved. Also dump your EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recovery or Recirculation valve), this will has a massive effect too.
