Just fitted an EGR blanking plate and a tad dissapointed as everyome seems to rave about the improvement. Ah well, next job is a de-cat down pipe.

I've had a look and it seems easy enough but do I take the new down pipe to the local exhaust/tyre shop fit or do it myself?

It looks like I need a long socket extention to get at some allen bolts which look well heated/rusted on the manifold pipe. I don't have an extention that will reach so would have to fork out for a one-off tool;)

Thoughts/comments appreciated.

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob, there are 3 nuts that hold the downpipe onto the turbo and 2 nuts the hold the downpipe onto the mid section.

If you are not sure get someone else to do it.

You don't say what vehicle/year/engine we are talking about here, so maybe it would be a good idea to put some info in your signature.

Yep, sorry for the lack of details -

1996 300Tdi Disco, 131k miles.

On Fleabay there are new downpipes for £19.00 so I guess they're all pretty much the same.

Just a bit wary of shearing the allen bolts,

Cheers

If your going to do it lying on your back with rust droppin in your eyes then best get someone with right tools and a ramp to do it.Should only take half an hour with right gear.

Hi Rob, you keep refering to allen bolts - if your car is std there aren't any allen bolts involved in doing this job.

If you do decide to do it yourself, remember to jack up the front chassis to give yourself a bit more working room.
