First time using this so hope I have not bodged it.

I would like to ask a question reference the discovery 200, 300 oil burner, I have checked the threads but can't find what I am looking for precisely.

The manual gearbox seems to have a nasty habit of losing all drive because the mainshaft bursts in the transfer box, I beleave that you can weld it up to prevent this but not really practical if you need to overhaul it at a later date.

How often does this happen, do you get some warning first, and is it more a mileage/wear problem, a driver abuse, or both and are there any other terminal faults in there that give you a box of neutrals. Does the automatic box offer better service, I go off road on my own and a failure like this will leave me as you can imagine looking for a tractor to get me out.

I haven't purchased one yet but will spend no more than £5000 and want to get it right, and although I will still be using it for my work purposes at home, I want to join a club and test it but not too seriously probably mid range plenty mud and sorts but not competitively.

I guess any advice is appreciated.

That said, fair play. Someone who achally did a search furst!

Have to say, it's not a common problem that I've heard of (not common like HGF in Gaylanders type o' thing) AND you should get a helluva good 200/300Tdi fer 5K.

Final word of warning - Greenlaning on your own really isn't a good idea. Get stuck & no end of nasties can befall yer motor left all alone in the middle of nowhere while you try to get help. People are NOT nice!

Add your location to your profile and when you've got yer motor post in the greenlaning section for people to show you the ropes, so to speak. It's pretty active in there these days & there's quite a few groups of us get out & about regleear like.

Oh, & welcome to Lary Zone. ;)

cheers for that, I will stick it in disco section and see what happens.

Won't be greenlaning on my own but collecting wood for my hungry boiler is a different matter. Intend to make one of these plough thingies and fit a winch to get me out of trouble, but a blown drive I guess is a different matter, I doubt I can winch myself home several miles, 200 battery's later.

But thank's for that advice, all the best.
