It's failed today for having a hole about an inch and a half wide under the rear wheel arch, which needs welding somehow.

It has had a repair on the inside of the rear door on the same arch which they didn't like. Some previous owner filled a hole about the size of a 50p coin with chemical metal and apparantly that aint allowed

So now I shall be spending the rest of my week off looking for someone handy/cheap with a welder and trying to get things sorted.

Still could of been worse I suppose.

If that's all it failed on, I'd be cheering lol. If you're not au fait with welding, a patch that size in such an accessible place would be easy beer money for a local garage.
Where abouts are you, plenty of people could patch that in next to no time!

I am quite pleased that it was only that.......and a front track rod end ball joint. I did kind of expect something more drastic. I'm up in High Peak, will have to have a day visiting garages for prices.

Nothing unusual there. the use of chemical metal is iffy in that location as it is a safety critical part of the car - seat belt anchors and also rear pillar, that's why they didn't like it. Would suggest you have a good firm prod around just to be sure how far the rot extends, then do the same the other side - it will be there!

A local garage/welder should have it sorted in no time, quite a cheap fix or if you are handy with a mig welder do it yourself, wouldn't take long just make sure you put plenty underseal around the area of repair or you'll be back inthere patching it up in no time.
