Have to say, that isn't my experience. My car gets pretty good DAB reception in most areas that I operate in. Used to be a bit patchy in Cornwall.
Was only recently they 'gave us back' Planet Rock down 'ere, looked forward to passing Tiverton Parkway when travelling up the M5 - became available just after the section where the track runs parallel.

Luckily can get it again at home now (without listening online) :). Might get one for the landy now.

It is still a bit patchy, but seems to be improving over time, presumably as extra masts are added.

My new Volvo XC90 has DAB, as I suspect all new cars will now have, but after trying it several times and signal issues I use FM all the time, and to be honest apart from more stations DAB has no advantage over FM. And in a Defender all you need is a basic radio to add a different noise to the engine.

I have yet to find DAB reception anywhere around here!
I only started using it 18 months, or so, ago after trying Absolute 80's
I've noticed the signal gets worse in the rainy bad weather. ☹️

DAB radio !!!
We are still waiting for the internet and BBC 2 up here.
There was talk we were getting hot water next year, but the woman who started that was burned at the stake.
Aye, witchcraft that.

I have a Pure DAB radio in my shed, the one useful advantage of it is that you can effectively rewind. So if I miss something, I can make it go back so that I can listen again. In all honesty, it's a bit of a faff and you wouldn't want to be mucking about trying to do it on your car radio whilst driving.

I put a Pure Highway DAB / FM / CD / BT phone unit into my defender. I’m not in the best DAB reception area but when I am it works well. I could not get window aerials to work with it so installed a powered combined DAB / FM aerial to replace the one on the wing. It’s a short aerial and is really meant for roof mounting - I plan to change it to the roof position soon - I think that will improve things a lot. The key thing for me was providing direct power to the aerial from the battery rather than from the stereo.
