Hi,

I have a couple of nice Sony/Pioneer radios, but they are too long to fit into the console on my '99 TD5 Defender and looks fugly sticking out. Does anyone have a radio in theirs that fits snug and if so was it the OG or another?

I am not really bothered about Bluetooth and all that malarkey!

Cheers!

It's definitely worth measuring the depth of the slot, and getting the spec of any potential candidates to make sure they will fit. There isn't a lot of room so you do have to make sure the wiring is tidied up behind as it slots in.

I had a 1990s Sony cassette radio in my old 90 to replace the original Philips unit which fit well. It was a 1980s vehicle so it seemed appropriate and looked the part, and I even made up a few mixtapes! It also came with a 10-disc CD changer which was a millimetre-perfect fit down one side of the cubby box, and then with the lid closed it was invisible.

On a similar note, be careful when buying speakers. The wiper motor on the passenger side gets in the way of a lot of them and limits the depth of speaker you can install in the stock location. You can get spacer rings to step them out a bit, or there's a few alternative positions such as behind the door pillar if you can make a trim panel to mount them to.

Am I the only one that hates the term “OG” and how people use it/miss-use presently. Seems to be in the past 6-9 months it’s taken as a horrid trend!!!!!

Never heard it before. What did it mean and what does it mean now?
According to Urban Dictionary's most popular definition, OG is a simple abbreviation that “used to mean Original Gangster.” It has since been further co-opted to mean simply “original” or “old school.”

I bought a 1/2 depth one for our boat, cost 15 quid and was actually very good, bluetooth as well.

This kind of thing, ours was not as posh as this one though..

Nice, that would work....I'll check dimensions. I could use one of those little FM transmitter doobries that go into the cigar lighter for BT to phone.
