D3 Tailgate Stuck

Evening all,

Other half phoned me today to say she could get the tail gate open on our 2006 D3. Have come home tonight and I tried pushing both the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the dashboard and it pop open a little bit (sounds like the lock is releasing) but the top and bottom won’t separate.

Is there anything thing else I can try and pretty keen to avoid a trip to the garage as been and expensive month already with the central heating boiler going bang. I’m not hugely technically minded but willing to have a go.

Iirc there is something in the manual, something to do with the lock/unlock buttons just above the radio?

It will almost certainly be the actuator that has gone weak, the actuator for the top tailgate is located in the bottom tailgate
Bench test the actuator, and what you will find is each consecutive oepration will get slower and slower until it stops completely.

Coied from this thread on the D3 forum, Press the 2 buttons on the dash whilst another person pressed the handle and the tailgate opened.
In the handle on the top tailgate is a small microswitch that is prone to water ingress through the top of the tailgate handle.
