I have a 2008 Disco 3 and the liftgate will not open. I have tried the lock unlock method and still nothing happens. The normal way of opening produces a niose like the operating solenoid is working but not releasing the catch. The same as when i press lock /unlock togeather,Is there anyway i can remove the tailgate/liftgate trim to get to the latch mechanism as i cannot open the gates to get to the screws that hold the trim on .
any information would be appreciated thank you in advance.
i have already posted this on the discovery forum but think this could be the same as a range rover sport L322 of the same year

It's not the same.... the usual mode of failure is the bowden cable swaged end fractures & breaks off.
The only way to get to this is to get in the boot by dropping the middle row seats, using a couple of plastic wedges to ease the lower tailgate carpet trim from under the plastic closing trim, cut a hole to the left of centre (as you look at it) in the water-shedder and release the latch with a short screwdriver or prise the bowden cable from the actuator and pull on the broken end. Both methods are fiddly but do-able - I forget how many of these I've done! The part you need is LR017470 - this is the latch with the modified cable assy.

have also heard if someone on the outside on the handle and someone inside pressing the lock / unlock buttons at the same time for around 5 seconds on the dash

also as suggested with ref to the third button which can be problem to open the tailgate

anther thing to check is the tailgate connector underneath the passenger seat, has 4 x wires, should have a 12vdc supply to the tailgate

Hope this also helps

Wiring diagram

Once u get it open

split the multiplug inside the top tailgate (yellow is to handle switch and red is feed plug) and test supply here , next step check under seat

12V on top right pin and when earthed the actuator should work, of not may have a broken wire or bad earth

U can also use a cheaper Ford part to save u money

hope that helps

Read the first post - he can hear the actuator operating, it's a waste of time doing wiring checks as it's the Bowden cable swaged end that is broken. Replacing the actuator will achieve nothing.
The part number I posted is the latch & bowden cable assy., not the actuator.

Indeed that’s why I also included details above about the cable

A bottle of Diesel Magic costs a bit over a quid.

And putting kerosene in the tank is going to get you in trouble if you get diesel dipped, and probably not going to do your injection pump any favours either.
Yep, I would buy 1 but you can't insure them in the UK any more so sticking with the D3 v8 and sport v8 both ulez as well so **** kharn
