Ok so it looks like I need to replace at least one of my CVs the thing is there seems to be a big difference in price between the Britpart/Allmakes/Bearmach ones and the GKN ones. Are the pattern ones 'good enough' or will they need doing again in 3 months time ????

CV joints aren't expensive and you get what you pay for if you buy cheap. The general rule is that for any moving/critical parts avoid the cheaper suppliers such as ****part and bearmach. GKN have a reputation for good reason so I would go with them

GKN will last forever because they are made from nice hard metal

sometimes however cheap ones are better for offroad becuase they are less likely to crack the bell through shock, becuase they are not generally as hard

however, they can/tend to snap the shaft under heavy torque conditions

in short, cheap ones will probably be ok

they wont manage 150k like GKN but then they do have other qualities being softer, plus they are much cheaper which means you can fit new units with new splines more often rather than running old worn spline units for longer

i bought a pair of 2522s from bearmach as a temporary measure before i fitted the ashcroft units and they seemed to be most satisfactory in quality so would have been happy to use them in any other situation

cheers

i was going to say, i've been meaning to try the j&r stuff the next time a cv is needed for a vehicle. i've seen a few posts with people being generally pleased with the quality.

i wouldn't expect gkn, but i'm thinking they've managed to find a decent overseas supplier.. upto you if it's worth a punt though
