Hi everyone, would appreciate some advice please.

I brought a 2000 Freelander XEi last week and im having acouple of niggles. Before i take it back to be looked at does anyone know the likely cause of the crunching when going into reverse & a slight "Clunk" from the starter motor after the the engine has started. Both problems dont occur all the time.

Would be helpfull to be armed with info before i take it back, if you know what i mean.

Cheers in advance.

Crunching when going into reverse is not unusual - the same gearbox is used in the MGF & TF and they are terrible for crunching into reverse, especially when there is an audience!

Try coming off the clutch then pressing in again before selecting reverse and use a definite strong movement of the gear lever - that helps but it still does it sometimes. My 1998 XEI does it, my previous 2001 model did it as did my father-in-laws 2001 model.
