My crankshaft pulley bolt somehow managed to loosen itself, I'm trying to fix it at the moment.

Having a problem keeping the pulley still while I try and tighten it. Got any ideas? Whatever it is, it has to be strong as it has to go up to 336lb/ft.

Thanks,

Ash

I would put it in Low First and Chock the wheels.

Only a guess though, I am sure someone else will tell you the proper way

I'd put it in HIGH range FIFTH as it will be much harder to turn the engine over than in Low 1st. Chock the wheels and get someone to sit with their foot on the brake or failing that apply the handbrake. I hope you've had your weatabix when you tighten it up. Use a little locktite so as it wont come loose again.

Job done. Thanks guys. Went with low first diff-lock and handbrake!

Wheatabix? Naahhhh, 6 foot scaffolding pole.

You are lucky not to have taken a couple of teeth off a gear.

FOURTH gear IF IT IS DIRECT is best for these jobs, or the highest gear youv'e got if all the gears are indirect, and HIGH RANGE.

Using a low gear and low range is exactly what NOT to do.
The man told you ...
