Crank Sensor

Hi My fathers DII td5 appears to have a failed crank sensor. How is it changed? as aperantly there is a cover that is making it nearly impossible to get at, but I have only seen my V8 which no such covers and the manual I have only covers the V8

8mm socket for the securing bolt ,its on front of bell housing just behind the head on the drivers side,
