Hi,

Hoping someone can help. A friend has sent me the attached photos of a 12J 2.5 N/A diesel engine that he is doing the head gasket on at the moment. After disassembly, he noticed cracking around injector ports. Head gasket was done partly because of rough running and partly just as prevenatative maintenance whilst the engine was out.

Can anybody shed light on whether this is fine / needs repair / head is done for?

Thanks, any help much appreciated.

i know very little about diesel engines, i do know that i would not put a damaged part back on anything unless i wanted it fail.

i have problems with my engine at the moment and the biggest ball ache is removing/refitting the engine, i would say while its out, sort it properly first time saving any bother later.

there not injector ports they are hot spots (combustion chamber )some cracking is acceptable but those need replacing ,there called hot spots as they remain hot to help combustion can be tapped out with long punch from injector side, remove glow plugs first get your injectors checked too

They are the pre-combustion chamber, the 2.5 n/a is indirect injection so the injector squirts into the chamber made by this piece and the recess in the head.

They are easily changed and not expensive, but shouldn't be loose in the head.

ERR1223 They call it both hot spot and pre-combustion chamber.
