Can anyone help with this problem? I have just bought a 2000 Td5. The courtesy lights don't come on when doors open, ignition is turned off, or when the doors are unlocked with the remote. I have checked fuses and these seem OK. Lights can be turned on via the switch!
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi the coutersey lights are switched on by a black box called the bcu, body control unit this does a lot of funtions like wipers washers key codes doors open, have you tried opening any other door than drivers door as switch to turn on lights and alarm triggering is all built into the latch on every door,it could be that its lost its marketing programme, this can happen if a slabs has been replaced and its been disconected while it was being fitted needs plugging in really i will have a look on rave to see what i can find out.

Hi as a follow on to what i said the bcu sends a live to all interior lights on a purple/blue trace wire, power comes from fuse20 when you turn the power on by yourself, the ignition key ring should light up as well when you undo car does this work? i ask this as the bcu turns this on first or should i say its the first part of the circuit the wires then go through a couple of headers to the interior lights so you could have a look to see what power and earths you have at lights i believe the bcu sends out an earth path so dont nesacerily look for 12v check for an earth on that wire i hope this helps

just had same problem with my 94 disco it was a loose connection somewhere behind passenger footwell side panel where wiring comes down door pillar gave wires a good wiggle and lights came on,you can check the control unit for the lights and various other things on it by holding down the heated rear window switch as you turn on the ignition.i can expand on this procedure if required.

Thanks for the advice. I will try this. Yes the light around the ignition does come on, so I am guessing that there is a fualty door switch somewhere or some loose wiring. It does not make any difference which door is opened. I will let you know how I get on.
Again thanks.

well if the light comes on around the ignition then the bcu is sending a signal out, i believe there is 2 connectors before the light will try and find location for you,it wont be your door latches as these obviously lock corectly and you dont get a miss lock from the alarm.

I have a 95 and if its anything like the 94 then its easy to work on but they are crap the motors are junk I know from experince...

Thanks for all the advice. In the end took it back to dealer. They changed underseat control box and this made no difference. In the end it was a bad earth connection.

Hi I'm new on this forum an hoping someone can help me I have the same problem the courtesy light used to work occasionally so I'm guessing it's also a loose connection can you tell me where your loose connection was I presume it was under the glovebox? Is this where the BCU is located? If not can some one please tell the most likely places for the wire to work loose I've already had the light out and checked those Connections the red ignition light also illuminates as normal any help or advise would be much appreciated

Cheers in advance
Andy

BCU is behind the blovebox, so is SLABS and ACE ECU, BCU is the one with 5 plugs in it(4 in line and none aside) the courtesy light(and ignition illumination) output is on pin 9 of C0663(the small grey 12pin connector near the large yellow) ...but as long as the ignition barrel illuminates it means the BCU sent the signal(as tigapiglet well said)... after that there are 2 connectors between the ignition barrel and courtesy lights where the feed could dissapear C0484/0102 and C0723, check these(see pics)...it must be earth in this case on blue wires(off course on courtesy illumination request)
