Good morning.

My brake warning light has started flickering on and off. Brake fluid level is fine but pedal has quite a bit of travel so I assume my front pads require replacement.
I bought some from Halfords but only only pad has a wear indicator lead, is this correct?
If so, then I will fit them this weekend. Not having the handbook, could someone tell me where the jacking points are for the front wheels?

And lastly, diff lock time!

OK, I have a lever with a picture above it. Can someone explain exactly how I use it (on/off, hi/low) and when!

Thanks a lot

Mike

Yes there should only be 1 wire for each pair of brake pads.

Low range is for low speeds Steep hills and heavy pulling/towing.
High range is for normal driving speeds & conditions
Diff lock is selected by pushing the lever to the left. This locks the front and rear diffs and is used when you are likely to lose grip and spin wheels. Wet grass, mud, ice etc. Do not use on firm hard surfaces as it can damage the diffs you can engage difflock whilst moving but must be sationary when moving from high to low. and back again.

Hey.

As for jacking point, are you planning to use a trolly jack and then stick it on axel stands? This is best way in my experience, if you are then you can quite safley jack her up using the front diff then drop onto the axel stands, I've done the brakes once on just a normal jack without stands and I wouldn't advise it, its just not safe.

So, for normal driving, what combination of difflock, gear should I be on (I assume difflock off, high ratio)

Is this correct? and if so is that lever to the right, pushed to the top (away from the handbrake)

difflock only locks the center differential as standard.. unless it's been tricked up?
dont use it unless you are really stuck for traction..ie a muddy bog or rut.

The general rule of thumb is: high range on road, low range for more control and torque off road, but for simply driving across a field, low range may not be needed. Time will teach you when it's required. try to avoid using the difflock till you got your head around high/low ranges and remember the Disco is full time 4x4 you dont need to select it as you do in other/older landies and Jap cars.

Diff lock is selected by pushing the lever to the left. This locks the front and rear diffs .

Not so. The diff lock locks the centre diff which effectively locks the front and rear prop shafts together. Both the front and rear axle diffs are still free/unlocked. This is an important distinction to make :)

haha this old chestnut lol and mmarks drive on normal use with lever to the right and down towrds the handbrake not away or you will find yourself changing through the gears pretty quick
