Might aswell put these in one post,
First gonna clean up this Tow Bar, Is it just the 2 bolt holes on bottom that hold it to crossmember ?

Next I've just put my gear box and engine mounts back on, I've used the same bolts that came off but they are only plain washers with flanged nuts, will these be OK ? or should I use Nylock or Spring Washers ??

And what thread are the holes in bottom of Gear Box Cross Member as I need to rethread them ??
Thanks

I’m not certain, but the tow bar could be upside down. I think that style used 2 off 16mm bolts (largest 2 at the bottom) and 2 off 12mm bolts (lower 2 off of that matching 4).

I would replace every nut and bolt while your at it. What you use, stainless steel, mild steel, nyloc, spring washer, etc, is all personal preference.

I think my cross member bolts were all M10, just different lengths. Some bolted into the crossmember, some went through it with nuts.

looks like a td5 cross member they are the only ones with threaded lower holes, i hope you arent leaving that much thread protruding past the nut
you have a choice nyloc and flat washer, flat ,spring and std nut or you can use those as the lock too but with a flat washer, i prefer nylocs for such as that

I did get 2 different crossmembers with it, think I had a thread on here about which one to use, will try and find it.
I did think that these bolts were a bit to long they are these on photo, should I use shorter ones ? I can get some tomorrow.

The top one is the same as I had supplied with my Marsland chassis. Mine is a 200tdi, with plastic tank, so no I don’t think you have the wrong one.

Thanks Might get some 100 mm with Nylocks

If your struggling for bolt dimensions, you can have a look for “bolt kits” online, and see what sellers are selling to do the job. I don’t agree with everything on the net, like stainless for towing, but most kits will give you thebokt size and quantity.

OK Got bolts today M10 X 100MM as stated on part numbers from book.but they are to big to go through the holes, Now I know that some holes have to be re drilled again due to the Galvanising but I Really don't think these are like that, the bolts I have in now on photos, which the PO used too are thinner then the M10s not sure what size they are though. So not sure weather to take one to supplier and get them to match but in 100mm.
These new M10s DO fit the holes for gear box crossmember though so will come in handy for that.

your box mounts are m8 your crossmember are m10, so youd want 5 x m8 x 100 and 1 m8 x 110 as top rear passenger side would normally have a earth cable clamped to it

Sounds right to me James Thanks. are the engine mounts the same M8 ?as they look the same too
Just realized when I looked at the book I just went off the part numbered bolt for crossmember thinking that they would all be the same. Glad I never got my drill out, was thinking about it too:eek:

engine mounts are usually welded in

Yes That's what the lad who took my chassis to get Galved said too, mine have only 2 holes at the top in them for bolts, he told me to drill another in the middle, or even another 2. Photos before Galvanising.
