Hi guys,

Some silly noob driver bitch (18 blonde vain rich daddys girl type) drove into me this morning on the A171 Whitby to Scarborough road and my poor old disco stood no chance!

Any way to cut a long story short, head on crash i was doin 50 MPH against a fiat punto doing 10MPH as she just turned out of a farm road cut the corner and straight into front of me.

Her car almost disintigrated! and ended up spining round into wall! mine took some serious N\S front end damage and ended up on other side of road in the grass verge!

It has pushed the body back off the mounts, engine blead all its oil over the road, 3 Flat tyers the front axel has been twisted, its totaly stoved in at the front!

So ambulance, hospital police and statment later im back home in pain and thankfull to be alive but gutted my Disco has died:(

So now Swiftcover are going to kindly write it off (its way past repairing) im looking for a Defender unless i shouldnt be lol

All advice welcome:)

That's a shame, especially as you've just fitted your new light bar

Hope you weren't hurt too badly?

Cars can always be replaced, people can't.

Glad your ok.......sounds like punto girl came off far worse with spinal injuries. Hope she makes a full recovery.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes:)

a Quick Update,

Swiftcover are declaring the Disco a total loss and im awaiting for someone to contact me with regards to a claim settlement, so im now calling on all you landy lovers to help me out with what is and isnt acceptable as a settlement claim.

Ok The car is

1998 (R) Discovery 300tdi GS
169600 Miles
4 New AT Tyres
Good Bodywork
Solid Chassis
Excelent Inside

Now as i understand from Swiftcover it will be based on a GLASS, PARKER and AUTOTRADER industry valuations.

The glass valuation i did this morning was £2850 trade price for make model year and milage.

We buy any heap valuation was £1000 thats after a visit the other week to the Carcraft in Leeds.

As i have never had to go through this im lost as to weather i can tell him to shove is value up his hoop and demand more or do i have to accept what im told??

If so what would be a reasonable price to accept? I would be happy with £1700 as thats what i paid for it in Feb 10 but its estimated value on the insurance was £5000.

Any help is greatfully recived:)

If they come back with less than you think is reasonable then you can always appeal the decision as long as you can provide proof of vehicles for sale in the area.

Insuring it for £5000 doesnt guarantee your payout unless it is an agreed value policy.

When our 1st Disco was in a crash (Cat C) I was advised to refuse their 1st offer & then print off 10 examples of Disco's from autotrader, showing same mileage, condition & spec etc. Basically showing the ins. co. how much cash I needed to replace the Disco, they worked out the average and offered me £2300, which I gladly accepted as it was more than what I paid for it a few weeks previously:)

all so land rover owners good a rough price guard aswell ??

that may be useful aswell for you ???

Check everything, Them recovery drivers are right robbing bastids, They've probably taken all the good stuff for themselves..

Happened to a mate of mine some years ago had his 200sx written off in london and it somehow didnt make it back to middlesbrough so he could buy it back

I know you didn't just start this thread for sympathy but I hope you're ok. She should be getting the careless driving charge not you. They won't believe a new driver over you anyway so it will be fine. Good to see the old girl went down fighting, taking a girl and a punto with it. Why not give her a funeral? burry her... the girl in the punto I mean :D

I dont do sympathy mate not even for myself! but yes im fine now, They have offered the other driver a education course which she has to pay for if she dosent she will go to court for careless driving,

I didnt do anything wrong so never been in doubt mate, The insurance company Swiftcover have "lost" my Disco, (I dont think its anything to do with the snap on tools that i had in the back but could be wrong)

So until they find it i cant get a valuation for a pay out but they have given me a 59plate VW Tiguan 4Motion, which is ok but ****e at the same time but got that until 48 hours after settlement!

Im just wrestling between a Disco or Defender and trying to weigh up the pros and cons

ive read about a modified Toyota Supra being written off with about 20k worth of upgraded turbos, manifolds dump valve etc and when the bloke went to buy his car back from the recovery place the interior and all the expensive parts from the engine had dissapeared

ooh if they've lost it they're gonna struggle to prove you didn't have £5k worth of tools in the back. Phone the police officer dealing with the accident and tell them the recovery company have "lost" your vehicle and you want to report it as stolen. Watch how quickly it reappears. Recovery company will be on a select list of police approved companies. In the event of an accusation of theft of a vehicle from a Police authorised recovery they'll be suspended from all further police work until it's been investigated.
