Coolant temp gauge?

@ Discovery1-Daz: I'll check that monday in industrial control accessories

@ Mad Hat Man: yes, the temperature range is better yet the diameter is large

@ Discool : you're right, but when the stat housing fills with vapor it's on the engine side

Interesting thread....I would recommend a look at FAQs as some has been covered there and some searching too as much has been discussed and there are many good ideas and links hidden away on here !

OP, I am planning to put all sorts of gauges on a 300 I am rebuilding, if I stop crashing them long enough to get time, and am following your project with decided interest....what sort of oil pressure gauge are you using ?Are you twinning it with the stock one ? Oil temp ? What kind of voltmeter and where taken from ? Etc etc !

All of the gauges i'll be using are made by "TIM" so they are all the same size/style/illumination.
The oil pressure gauge is a kit that comes with an electrical sender so i won't have oil filled pipes running up behind the dash!
I'm not using an oil temp gauge just pressure but will also have the low oil pressure light thats on the dash working too.
The volt gauge will be connected to an ignition switched live feed and just earthed normally to a good earth point.
The turbo gauge kit includes a hose and a t piece for putting in the wastegate boost hose but also comes with a threaded insert so the boost pressure can be taken from the manifold.
Think i'll just use the t piece adaptor.

Might take some pics as i'm doing em - if i remember :)

Hi, after cooking the head big time on my 300 twice I became paranoid, (both times towing at relative high speeds) and so fitted an aux temp gauge as well as the standard one. I fitted it to the bottom hose because what appears to have been happening was the rad couldnt cope (as it turns out it was partially blocked internally) when things started getting hard work for the engine ie towing at speeds above 50 or lower up steep long hills. So what I was looking at on the temp gauge was the water temp returning back into the engine after its been cooled by the rad, and so an early warning that the engine is about to overheat, (if its returning hot theres only one thing going to happen) that was two years ago and all well so far. although its a bit addictive watching it, you can see the temp rising with trailer/caravan, highest its risen to when working really hard is 85 which seems fine, oh if you put the heater on full then it drops about 5 degrees. You have to remember its not the engine temp your looking at but coolant returning to the engine. Next plan is to replace the normal dash temp gauge as I feel they are far to slow to react (it never moves from normal no mater how hard you drive)

I had that problem on a volvo and fitted an auxilliary fan for towing...sorted that until some crackhead in bristol demolished the electrical system trying to steal it. If he wanted the drugs THAT badly I would have given him some money to go score with....if he had thought to ask
